By the end of the first year, the cone grew to be over 1,000 feet tall. The cone continued to grow over the next eight years but only another 290 feet. In total, the volcano would be active for nine years. For the first two years, the main activity at the new volcano was pyroclastic flow, but for the seven years after that, the main activity was lava flowing from the base of the volcano. The lava moved very slowly but kept flowing. Eventually the lava from the volcano Paricutin would bury most of the town of Paricutin and partially bury its neighboring town. It is interesting to think that this eruption led to the buildup of the land to form a new volcanic mountain. So if a volcano can be born, then can a volcano die? Maybe you could find out and get back to me about that. |
