THE Rain and Snow on Everest
Humidity is a measure of
water in the air. When
air is saturated, it can
rain or snow.
At Base Camp on
Everest, which is already
17,000 feet above sea
level, it is most humid
from June through
September. The relative
humidity is close to
100% and it will snow.
This is a big difference
from the top of the
mountain, where the
humidity is lower and
skies are usually sunny
during the summer. It
rarely snows at the top
of Everest during the
months of June, July
and August. When it is
stormy at Base Camp,
climbers often hike right
through the storm
clouds into blue sky. |
